The Philippines, as a key economy partner in ASEAN, has been committed to promoting regional economic cooperation and energy connectivity and contributing to the global energy transition and sustainable development. In 2022, the Philippines enacted the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), which is aimed at accelerating the development, commercialization, and utilization of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Philippines. The Philippines government plans to achieve 850,000 electric vehicles and 20,300 charging piles by 2040 in the country.
During the meeting, the Consul General Ivan Frank M. Olea, after learning more about Beidou JieAn Neo-Energy Technology Ltd. and its products, pointed out that President Marcos of the Philippines signed an Executive Order No. 12 (EO12) on 20 February 2023, which imposes zero tariff on different types of electric vehicles and their relative parts for the next 5 years to develop green transport and reduce carbon emissions. Previously, some electric vehicles were subject to tariff rates of 5%-30%. All these initiatives fully demonstrate the Philippines' firm confidence and determination to achieve the carbon-neutral target. Taking into account the current situation of transport and living in the Philippines, the Consul General expressed his high expectations for the products and projects of Beidou JieAn.
During the communication, Emma Yang, CEO of Beidou JieAn, expressed her expectation for the cooperation between the two sides. She believes that the Philippines has an underestimated market potential in the field of new energy. After years of professional precipitation, Beidou JieAn has accumulated significant technical advantages in new energy electric vehicles and technical services, which are highly compatible with the market demands in the Philippines. In response to the policy, market, and living conditions in the Philippines, Beidou JieAn has carried out researches and introduced EVs and ESG projects that are suitable for the Philippines market and population, to improve users' traveling manners and help families alleviate the pressure on electricity. Beidou JieAn hopes to rapidly carry forward the first global EV tricycle taxi project with Philippines government in Manila, and expects to launch the first batch of 50,000 units in the Philippines to help their taxi drivers transition from using fuel vehicle tools to new energy vehicles, respond to the carbon neutral goal, and help Filipino young people to get jobs and localize their products.
During product exhibition, the Consul General Ivan Frank M. Olea highly praised Beidou JieAn's two and three-wheeled vehicles, intelligent robots, swap cabinets, and new products under development. He looked forward to continuing to deepen the two sides' co-operation and exchanges as well as investment and entrepreneurship in the Philippines and the realization of all-around co-operation in the fields of sales, operation, investment, science and technology, and finance.
